One Planet Culture: Changing the world from your armchair
If you’re an armchair activist with a passion for film, arts and media, OPC is for you. From DIY film events to green reads and the latest news and reviews, we offer inspiration and information to help you help people and planet.
As part of Every Action Counts (EAC), until March 2009, we’re giving away a book or a film every month which challenges and encourages us to do our bit on ethical shopping, resource use and community involvement. But as we only have limited numbers, the most you can apply for is one every other month – sorry, but that seems the fairest way!
All washed up?
If you thought this summer was a wash out, just think how wet we’ll be if climate change raises the sea levels around our island nation. This month, we’re giving away 35 copies of JG Ballard’s sci fi classic, ‘The Drowned World’, set in a flooded capital city. But hurry, it’s first come, first served.
It's first come, first served, so if you would like to receive a free book email us at: eac@capacity.org.uk, with your name, address and email.

Rising sea levels are no longer the preserve of fiction. Join global web movement Avaaz.org to campaign in support of precarious small island states such
as the Maldives and the Solomon Islands.
Even if you weren’t affected by recent flooding, you may still be at risk
in the future. Find out by entering your postcode on the Environment Agency’s flood risk map, then see what action you can take.
Following a Fringe First Award, wide critical acclaim and a sell out run at The Edinburgh Fringe, The Caravan, a documentary theatre performance about the UK floods of summer 2007 - staged in a caravan.
Following a successful run at the Edinburgh Festival, check out one woman play ‘Another kind of silence’, charting the experiences of Rachel Carson, the first campaigner against pesticides and author of the seminal ‘Silent Spring’. The play is touring England until 7 November.
