One Planet Culture: Changing the world from your armchair

If you’re an armchair activist with a passion for film, arts and media, OPC is for you. From DIY film events to green reads and the latest news and reviews, we offer inspiration and information to help you help people and planet.

As part of Every Action Counts (EAC), until March 2009, we’re giving away a book or a film every month which challenges and encourages us to do our bit on ethical shopping, resource use and community involvement. But as we only have limited numbers, the most you can apply for is one every other month – sorry, but that seems the fairest way!

Stuck in traffic?

Getting up at 3am just because you wanted to save 20 quid on that flight to Barcelona?  Maybe we need to change the way we travel.  Follow Bill Bryson as he travels around Britain by bus, train and on foot in our giveaway this month, 'Notes from a Small Island'.  It's first come, first served, so email us at: eac@capacity.org.uk, with your name, address and email.  And if you also tell us how you're travelling sustainably, you can win one of 10 signed copies of Bill's book!"

Keep up

Bristol’s Spike Island has commissioned new work from pioneering land artist, Richard Long, and Simon Starling. Long has created enormous wall art using mud from the River Avon, while Starling exhibits two rocks, one of which has taken a tremulous journey down the river on a weathered raft. Moving interactions with the Bristol landscape or a load of old hooey? You decide: http://www.spikeisland.org.uk/exhibitions/richardlong/gallery

Is it the world’s most dangerous board game? Confiscated by police at the Kingsnorth climate camp, this biting satire offers suicide bombers, political kidnaps and intercontinental war. Spin the Axis of Evil to determine your next move! We’re looking forward to the climate change version… http://www.waronterrortheboardgame.com/
