As part of the Every Action Counts programme, Capacity Global was commissioned to work on diversity, environment and sustainable development. On the basis of the report Capacity Global will be launching a report and 'manifesto' of action required by the sector to include: BAME's (Black, Asian, and Ethnic minorities), disabled people and young people. Baring in mind the need for collective action in a multi cultural society to tackle climate change putting the issue of inclusion on the environmental agenda is crucial.
1 Sept: Camp for Climate Action 2009 - Environmental Justice and Climate Change
Climate change and those who are affected and responsible, is an issue of privilege and power. Globally and within the UK, people of colour, working class and poor people and women disproportionately bear the costs of the social impacts of climate change, with higher levels of bad health records and economic instability. These groups are also disproportionatly at risk as workers from a decrease in industry. We will examine climate change from a perspective of challenging power and privilege, and will also examine our own power and privilege as individuals and as a "movement".
As part of Camp for Action, Capacity will take part in the DIY Education Collective workshop. The workshop will be looking at Environmental Justice and Climate Change and how it relates to key issues like transport and incenerators.
